GM GREEN Propels Young People into STEM Careers

January 24, 2012 - Earth Force’s GREEN program has put tens of thousands of young people in the driver's seat in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. The opportunity to really study an environmental problem in their community combined with a chance to work side-by-side with an environmental engineer from General Motors is helping these young people see engineering and science as fascinating, and real, career options.

Her journey starts in high school, where her passion for science was ignited through the project. Now, as a GREEN mentor with Earth Force, she guides young people through the same exciting discoveries she herself made!

Parks tells Earth Force, "As a student, I really enjoyed the experience and science behind river sampling and the enthusiasm the environmental professionals showed during the GREEN watershed project. This definitely influenced my decision to enter into the engineering field and ultimately land in a job I love. Now I am the fortunate one, as a mentor, to be able to try and inspire students into a career of science!"
