March 27, 2012 - Students at Stetser Elementary used the Earth Force Process to grow a garden at their school during the 2010-2011 school year.

Stetser students decided to write to the first lady about planting a butterfly garden and the vegetable garden at the school in February 2011. Janet Baldwin, Stetser Elementary School Principal, also described the benefits of the garden in a letter to Mrs. Obama.

The garden will “make connections for our students around growing and tasting fresh fruits and vegetables,” wrote Baldwin. “Our goal will be to connect our garden with our local community and incorporate the produce we grow into our school lunch program.”

Since receiving the letter, first lady Michelle Obama, invited a group of students from Stetser to help her with a gardening project on Monday, March 26, 2011. She welcomed the Chester students along with children from across the country to join her for the fourth annual White House Kitchen Garden spring planting on Monday afternoon.
