Oshawa Students Test Creek Water QualityApril 24, 2012 - On April 10, a group of Oshawa students waded right into learning about the local ecosystem as they conducted experiments to determine the health of the Oshawa Creek. Ten science students from G.I. Roberts Collegiate participated in the project, which was organized through GREEN. Bill Craig, an environmental officer for General Motors, was the lead mentor for the project. "This is really aimed at getting them away from the classroom and doing some hands-on work at the creek," Craig said. The students carefully recorded their results, which showed the creek is in good shape. Student, Kourtney Johnston was surprised at the results after cataloging the bugs. "The water quality is actually pretty good down here...I thought it would be pretty gross, but it's actually pretty clean," she said. All of the students said they enjoyed working outdoors. |
