May 18, 2012 - On Friday, May 11, Earth Force held its 13th Annual Youth Summit in Philadelphia. We hosted six Philadelphia-area schools—for a combined total of over 250 students—at the Philadelphia Zoo. The students gathered to connect with one another and share their successes from throughout the school year through poster boards and live presentations.

The students also had the opportunity to connect with several of Earth Force’s local partners. The students broke into groups and visited each partner table, where they learned about environmental efforts in and around their city. Partners in attendance included EPA, Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center, the Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership, GreenTreks, Temple Community Garden, Greener Partners, and the Philadelphia Zoo itself. These partners hosted interactive activities for the students as they shared their causes.

The highlight of the day was the time allotted to student presentations, which gave students an opportunity to share their projects with the entire group. Presentation styles included videos, slide shows, and speeches and covered topics ranging from addressing gun violence to schoolyard greening projects to increasing public awareness about our environment. The students expressed a definite pride in their own work, many of them cheering as their school came up to present.
