Students Test Waters in Youngstown, OHMay 18, 2012 - Seventh grade students from Volney Rogers Middle School, in Youngstown, OH, were excited to get in the water and learn a few environmental lessons. "This gives me a chance to do hands-on activities," said Isaiah Donley, one of the participating students. The students participated in the sampling and testing of water quality in the Ax Factory Run, a small stream that flows over a rocky bottom in a wooded ravine along with city's West Side, alongside the school. The day was part of the Global Rivers Environmental Education Network (GREEN) program. It provides a hands-on learning experience for students, which increases problem-solving skills, knowledge of science and the environment, and furthers community involvement. |
