Arlington

Description: Our work in Arlington is through the Arlington Public Schools system, along with local resource partners who support teacher professional development and student service learning.

Why We Are Here: Arlington's public school population reflects communities widely ranging in ethnic and socioeconomic background, and Earth Force has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with its teachers and administrators.

Demographics: Information to be added soon.

What We Are Doing: This school year we have provided some field support for water monitoring, and we are especially glad that partner organizations Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment and Arlington Regional Master Naturalists have been able to provide the lion's share of water monitoring support. We have also conducted several teacher workshops in coordination with the APS Science Office, as well as with the High Intensity Language Training (HILT) Science program.

Earth Force History in this Community: Arlington has long been a center of activity for the Virginia/DC office, and APS students have been very active participants. All six middle schools and several of the elementary schools have used the Earth Force process as part of their curriculum, and Arlington students are always well-represented at the Youth Summit. H-B Woodlawn Secondary Program holds the distinction of having received the 2007 President's Environmental Youth Award for their Earth Force project on electronics recycling.
