Tonawanda, NY
Why We Are Here: Earth Force’s long standing partnership with General Motors prompted the GREEN program’s establishment in Tonawanda. Tonawanda is a first ring suburb and industrial hub of the Buffalo New York metropolitan area. It is located along the Niagara River, which stretches 35 miles long between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, including Niagara Falls. The area has a rich history connected to its location near the Erie Canal and the immigrant populations that have populated the region. The Tonawanda and nearby Buffalo area has experienced industrial growth along the Niagara River due to the availability of cheap power from the falls, bringing jobs as well as environmental concerns. The GM Tonawanda facility is working to help address these types of issues by joining the GREEN program as a good neighbor in this community. This new program will work to address water quality concerns and explore new environmentally focused careers with students in the STEM disciplines.
