The first kids to enter the sixth grade at the newly converted Harrington K-8 (formerly an elementary school, with grades through fifth) took their role as school leaders seriously this summer.

As part of the Rock ‘n’ Read program at Harrington, the students adopted the Harrington Community Garden as their service project, with neighborhood beautification as their issue of choice.
The students not only fixed up the garden, they invited other community members to visit the garden. The students planned a garden party and invited their families and neighbors, with colorful and fun invitations! |
In addition to showing off their hard work, the group hoped to recruit new gardeners to help maintain the plots. They made special brochures about the garden, with contact information for people to get involved in garden activities, to share with their neighbors.
As you can see, their work really paid off!
