Youth Summit 2006!

Youth Summit 2006!

Date: 7 Jul 2006

Capital Region Earth Force hosted its Second Annual Youth Summit on April 24th, 2006 in Alexandria City's Waterfront Park. One hundred and eighty students from five of Arlington’s middle schools, Howard County and Washington D.C met in Alexandria’s Waterfront Park at 9:30am for a morning of activities presented by partners focusing on the diverse stakeholders in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed including African Americans, Native Americans, Watermen and Farmers. A complete listing of partners can be found below.

During the afternoon, students shared their Earth Force civic action projects with their peers and invited guests. Alexandria City’s Mayor Euille issued a brief proclamation to the students and invited guests to commend the work of Earth Force students and highlight the importance of being an active citizen in one’s community. Following the proclamation, Alexandria’s City Councilmen Macdonald and Krupicka and Arlington County Board Vice Chairmen Ferguson and Member Tejada and Staples Region 3 managers distributed backpacks containing school supplies that have been generously donated by Staples.

It was a fantastic day! Thank you to all of the partners and supporters who made this wonderful celebration possible, especially the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, Staples Foundation for Learning, Whole Foods & The Virginia Environmental Endowment!
