For the 2005-2006 school year, NSMS has 6 sections of an 8th grade environmental science course working closely with GBWAP on improving student's understanding of science TEKS by using the local environment as an integrating context, and getting students involved in restoration and other environmental action events.
In addition, Fred Steubing, a science teacher at NSMS, continues to lead an after-school Earth Force program for 7th and 8th grade students. This EF group has participated in several action projects including the creation of a community nature park and marsh restoration projects.
