The high school environmental science class at the Chinquapin School has been working hard learning about their local environment and getting their feet wet and hands dirty as they do their part to make a positive change.
The 2004-2005 Environmental Science class conducted an intense study of the Lower San Jacinto River, including a historical component, water quality study, and habitat assessment. Towards the end of the school year, the students participated in a freshwater marshland restoration event on an island in the lower San Jacinto and distributed a educational packet titled "Protecting the Ecosystems of the Lower San Jacinto".
The 2005-2006 Environmental Science class is currently conducting their study of Sheldon Lake.
The 2005-2006 7th grade class at Chinquapin has taken on a marsh restoration program (Hip 2 Habitat), where students restore a marsh in Galveston Bay using plants grown on their campus.
