Participants enjoyed trips on the CBF vessel, "The Karen Noonan" and canoe trips to nearby beaches that are being impacted by erosion. An expert panel of erosion experts also brought current Chesapeake Bay Watershed erosion research and information regarding best management practices currently available to the participants. Thank you to our wonderful expert panel of:
- Keely Clifford - Sediment Coordinator - Chesapeake Bay Program Office
- Jeffrey Halka- Chief, Coastal and Estuarine Geology – Maryland Geological Survey
- Larry Sanford - Professor – University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Horn Point Laboratory
- Dave Wilson – Coordinator – Maryland Eastern Shore Resource Conservation and Development Council
At the completion of the course, educators returned home with an understanding of how to incorporate stewardship, problem solving skills and service learning into their classroom while also acquiring the skills and content information needed to implement a Meaningful Watershed Education Experience (MWEE) and meet Virginia Standards of Learning.
Capital Region Earth Force would like to thank the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration and the Virginia Environmental Endowment for their support of this program.
