A Ghost in the Bathroom?

Date: 24 Jul 2006

Restroom Policy or Procedure?

When Edison Elementary students came back from winter break, the Youth Council was determined to take on the huge issue of...their school bathrooms. The Youth Council members understood, from what their peers were saying, that this was an issue of major concern to many students.

There were several issues under the heading of "bathrooms" at Edison. For one, older students were circulating "scary stories" about ghosts - so scary that some kids were afraid to use the bathrooms!

To make the situation worse, some students would sneak into the bathrooms and switch out the lights while other students were using the facilities. Talk about scary!

There were also broken-down sinks, stalls and toilets.

The students knew that if they tried to focus on too many bathroom issues, they would lose track of their project. To narrow down their issue even further, they decided to survey their peers and get their opinions.

After the surveys were reviewed and tallied up, it became clear that it wasn't ghosts haunting the bathrooms...it was the smell that was frightening kids most

The Edison Youth Council took the very simple step of procuring Air Fresheners for the bathrooms. The "ghosts" of the bathrooms were no match for pine-scented action!
