...In September 2005, we learned about our community be doing environmental surveys, Down River City, and making a community map. Then we chose our issue by dot-voting and criteria-based decision making.
Our issue was: there wasn’t enough recycling in the community. We learned from experts, books and the Internet all about recycling.
We started figuring out our plan to help the community learn more about recycling, so that more people will recycle, and we will have a cleaner America. Then we took ACTION!
We taught the school in the hallway at lunch, using a giant display, with the 3 Rs, lots of great recycling facts and an interactive “Recycle Scramble.” We also made a book and we gave out bookmarks at the Annual Youth Summit. Last but not least, we raffled off original T-Shirts that said, “All About to a Cleaner America.” We celebrated with cookies and soda, and made a “Future Timeline.”
The Recycle Express shall live on in our hearts forever!
