Mr. Smith’s students were ready to get to the bottom of this issue. Students broke up into multiple teams to tackle what they thought was most important.
Students created surveys, interviewed Gilpin custodial staff, and developed a procedure for a science experiment proving the negative effects of litter. Surveys were given to community members asking people why they littered, how often, and what could be done to stop their littering habit.
The Gilpin custodial staff gave the students insights to how much time they spent picking up trash from the school grounds and how much they collected.
After compiling all of their information, students decided to hear more from an expert who also decided to do something about littering in his own neighborhood.
He explained to students how he used YourHub.com to spread the news about trash and littering in his neighborhood. Students were inspired to draft their own article to post on YourHub.com!
Nobody Likes a Litter Bug!
