In their own words...
By: Acelya K., Kaila R, Chris S.
What we did this quarter was recycle. We talked to the janitor about the bathrooms, like how we could improve it, and we finished reading the Earth Force book. Also we watched videos about recycling. We then walked around the lunchroom interviewing seventh and eighth graders.
We also did the project called River City where we drew cities and labeled where the canals were and other stuff like that.
We had to decide whether to work on bathroom issues or locker issues. The people that wanted to do lockers went on the locker side and the ones that wanted to do the bathrooms went to their side. We did the good vs. bad thing where we wrote what was good about this school and what was bad about this school.
Bathroom Doors Reflection by Miranda McGuire
The bathrooms were a failure. The janitor was mean, abrupt and refusing to even listen to any of the ideas we put out. I do not think that we can or should do anything further with this project. Personally I would be more than willing and able to install the doors with the help of a few friends. Since the janitor denied quite definitely all of our ideas, I don’t think we should do anything else. I’m not saying that the girls bathrooms do not need garbage cans for personal items. I’m just saying that we can’t do anything to help. This class is not the most exciting one, but I have learned many things! For example, how to recycle and why it’s important and what different kinds of plastic can be recycled and same with glass and metal. Also, I now know that when you recycle paper you send it into a big blue dumpster which compacts it all together to make paper squares.
