In their own words...
By Asia Dixon:
What we did for this quarter was we did a petition, videos, phone calls, and interviews. We did all of this for a topic to eat outside. We didn’t all agree on it but then we did. The only thing is our topic may not get to get accomplished until probably next year.
A lot of people agreed with our choice of topic and what I learned was that a lot of students would like to eat lunch outside. What I liked about this topic is that the students really supported us to eat outside. Also I liked that a lot of students participated, that’s what I really like.
I also liked how we did a lot of research and videos and petitions to support our topic to Ms. Greenfield. What I didn’t like is that Ms. Strangerros wasn’t supportive and giving our hopes up. I also think Ms. S should have supported us. But, the great thing is that we didn’t give up and Ms. Olson didn’t let us give up. I also am going to start to recycle more.

This quarter in service learning we have learned a lot. First we set a goal of trying to be the first junior high school (middle school) to be able to have an option to eat outside or not. On cool days we would eat inside and on warm days we would be able to eat inside or outside.
We also recycled every Wednesday and Friday. Recycling is where we go around the school with a large green cart and a box and a plastic recycling box and gather all of the loose paper from all the classes in the school.
On other days we would work on our class project of trying to be able to eat lunch outside on warm days. To keep track of all of our information we made a video. To make our goal possible we are going to give it to our principal (Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Greenfield, Mrs. Hleu).
If I had a choice I would come back to this class.

I enjoyed this class because I learned from Earth Force. I had fun with all the other students and enjoyed recycling! I hope that we do get the choice to eat inside or outside next year because I would like to have fresh air!
