The Forgotten Zone!

Date: 25 Jul 2006

When staring out the classroom window, most kids see trees and playgrounds and long to be outside. The students at Pinnacle Charter School see something different. The empty lot outside their school leaves a lot to be desired; they often long for something to long for.

So when FrontRange Earth Force came along and asked them what they wanted to change about their school or community, the answer was simple. A school landscaping beautification project was born.

Empowered by their own ability to make changes to their community, Pinnacle students sprung into action by lobbying school administrators and school board members for permission. When permission was granted, the students began spending Saturdays washing cars to raise money for the project.

The plan for the empty space includes picnic tables, trees and shrubs, and a bit of paint for the fence facing Huron Street in order to help make the school grounds more appealing and useful.

Although the students had only raised about half of the $2,200 needed for the project as of April, that didn’t stop them from getting started. They’re certain that it’s never too soon to start making their school a better place.
