One student group at Friends’ Central continued a project from last year focused on sustainable schools. Last year Friends’ students sent surveys to over 30 schools around the globe asking them to grade their school on several categories including recycling rates, energy efficiency and herbicide and pesticide use. This year the students decided to published a book with the survey findings along with ways for the schools to address the areas that need improvement.

Sustainable Schools: A Look at Environmental Problems in Schools was published in Spring 2006. It was sent to all of the schools that completed the survey, and it contained information on how schools could improve their facilities. The Sustainable Schools group also had the opportunity to present their findings at the National Friends Environmental Education Network Conference.
