To implement our project we first surveyed friends and family. For those who were willing to participate, we began to send out via email Bright Bulletins, informational newsletters varying from the facts and fictions of CFL’s to an energy efficient buyer’s guide. We began taking pledges to develop our website, www.brightideacfl.org, which we are now happy to say is currently up and running. Next, we contacted many community leaders, including the managers of local Home Depots and the mayor of Boca Raton, Steven Abrams. The community was very receptive to our project. Home Depot sponsored us for a day and donated 100 CFL’s for us to hand out during that time. Mr. Abrams made an appearance at the event, and we are happy to announce that we will appear in an energy brochure for the City of Boca Raton in 2007.
In the end, 1,264 light bulbs were switched from incandescent to compact fluorescents. For all of the hard work we put into our project, it definitely paid off! We are so excited with the results.
