I started my project by calling fourteen businesses that either sell or rent dive equipment or set up tours of the coral reef areas of south Florida. I had created a questionnaire and conducted a very specific telephone survey. I ended up working with Jupiter Dive Shop and Scuba Works. These two businesses are both located in the Jupiter area. Then on September 2–10, 2006, I had conducted research via internet, Public Library and Co-Operative Extension Office. On September 2 - November 4, 2006 I had conducted an experiment researching sunscreens effects on total dissolved solids in seawater. It was a huge success. I had also on September 10-17, 2006 created a pamphlet & “I Promise Form” with information gathered. On September 17, 2006 I submitted the pamphlet for approval. On September 27, 2006 I found appropriate paper for printing and arranged for printing via FAU. On October 30, 2006 I had picked up the completed pamphlets from Pine Jog Environmental Education Center. On November 4, 2006, I started distributing some pamphlets. I also set up a booth at Public Library & collected “I Promise” signatures. On November 16, 2006, I attended Jupiter High School‘s Science Fair and had set out pamphlets and “I Promise Forms” along with presenting my project. On December 4-6, 2006, I also had participated inn the Palm Beach County Science Fair. I worked on educating people from all aspects of the Jupiter community. People from my school, regular citizens, scuba divers, snorklers, boaters and beach goers. I was able to communicate and educate them on the very fragile state of our coral reefs, both natural and artificial. At this time I have collected over three hundred signatures from people who promised to make a sincere effort in changing their behaviors and are beginning to be more mindful of protecting the reef and to help MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
