Over the course of the experiment, the students have access to experts in coral reef ecology, invertebrate breeding and invasive species. Through interaction with the experts, the students are exposed to the reasons for decline of coral reefs around the world, why research on breeding of marine invertebrates is needed and how they, as concerned citizens, can help avoid accidental introductions of invasive species.

A Houston area high school has been running a rigorous science experiment with assistance from a team of experts from the Desirable Invertebrates Breeding Society. The students are collecting data on the life history and reproductive characteristics of a poorly studied marine gastropod. The students will prepare and publish a research report of their findings that will be released by early summer.
