Joe Walker Elementary Explores Erosion

Joe Walker Elementary Explores Erosion

Date: 20 Jun 2007

Our project is to protect our stream banks from erosion. We have studied what erosion is. Erosion can happen when it rains. The dirt gets washed away. We have helped keep this from happening by planting Black Willow. We are planning to clean up the stream and plant a butterfly garden.

We learned about the water cycle. We know that precipitation in the form of rain makes the stream deeper. It also makes the stream move faster. Then the stream washes away some of the dirt.

We learned what is in the soil. Soil is made of small rocks, dead animals and plants. We saw live plants and insects too. We also investigated how water affects soil. We saw what happened when all the water evaporated from our sample.
