Girl Scouts Explore Ways to Lesson Their Impact on the Environment

Many people are not aware of the small but significant actions that can be taken in their own home to lesson their impact on the environment. After attending the Global Warming Training Day at Mercyhurst College, we learned many things that can be done with little effort in everyone’s house to lessen our impact on our natural resources and environment. We wanted to share what we learned because awareness is a stepping-stone to prevention.

We decided that our message needed to reach as many people as possible. So, we channeled our excitement and amazement into the production of a 30 second long Public Service Announcement entitled You Can Do It, Too. The PSA will highlight the energy, emissions, and water that can be saved through small changes to your everyday habits. After choosing, researching and scripting our simple ways that you can do it, too, we realized that not only will it help the environment; it lightens the load on household budgets, as well.

Once filmed and produced, we will continue our project by meeting with local television stations as environmental professionals to convince them to apportion some of their public service airtime to the running of our piece. To achieve this we have worked on professional attire, resumes, and communication to show how serious we are about our environment and future. View the PSA on YouTube.
