Building Support for a Public Skate Park in Erie

We are the Skate Erie Adolescents. Our ultimate goal is to get a public skate park built in Erie. This is something that has been talked about for years, but has never been accomplished. We are here to make sure that it happens this time.

We know that there are thousands of skate boarders in Erie, but also that there are laws that make it illegal for you to skate anywhere except in your own driveway (if you happen to have one). Not only is this unfair, but it makes skaters criminals just for following their athletic passion.

There are a lot of benefits to having a skate park, besides giving skaters a place to skate. If the park is built right, then skaters will come from all over to use it. This means tourism. It also means that some kids will be less likely to leave Erie because there is nothing for them to do. Skateboarding is also a good way to reconnect you to the outdoors and to get you physically active.

We have presented our needs to the Neighborhood Watch Council, the Mayor's Office, and City Council. We are getting as many endorsements as we can and are working to raise funds for the skate park.
