Academy Prep – Ms. Nelson’s 6th Grade

Academy Prep is nestled within the historic part of Tampa called Ybor City. Picture red brick-lined streets and old cigar factories.

The students in Ms. Nelson’s class took inventory on and around their school campus. Problems included litter, lots of algae in a stormwater pond and erosion, especially under downspouts. Students deliberated about which issue deserved their attention. After conferring with Environmental Program Manager, Michael Harrison, P.G., students decided to address the erosion problem.

“We look forward to helping our community work together as a group to make things cleaner, safer and more beautiful”, says Earth Force student, Tiggi.
