15 Feb 2008- The students at Twin Lakes Elementary noticed that there were not a lot of trees on campus. They also perceived a lack of habitat for animals around the school. To change this they wrote a grant to be funded by Florida Learn and Serve to reverse the trend. They will work to enhance the habitat around the schoolyard as well to inform the public of the benefits. One of these efforts included putting together a display for the Florida State Fair that would be seen by thousands of people in Tampa over the span of the 12 days of the fair.
The class is also learning to use GPS units to enhance their work with replanting the missing habitat.
Ms. Frissel’s class is supported with funds by Florida Learn and Serve.
