The Earth Force project of the Environmental Club at the Erie Day School is school recycling. First we inventoried the school building and campus. Our concerns: Where are the waste and recycling containers located? Are teachers, adults and students alike, using them properly?
We found out that the system in place needed upgrading. Information and communication was required to guide people in the proper disposal of trash and recyclables. They do not belong in the same container!
We developed a school logo for the Environmental Club, which you will see around our school…”You haven’t lived if you haven’t recycled!”
Our school motto also states “Honor and Respect the Earth” and we should always remember the motto “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!” We use all these mottos. Our logo will appear on recycling bins throughout the school. A club mascot is in the works and may show up on a Friday for Morning Meeting announcements with our Green Tips. We are still working on a bulletin board and posters.
Many people talk about making a difference. The Environmental Club is really an opportunity to do so. Acting on behalf of our environment is a great thing to do and truly trendy!
