Canterbury School is located in eastern Pinellas County next to small estuarine creeks that lead out to Tampa Bay. Students in Ms. Cummings class who live in the area are well aware of the many issues that affect their unique location.
During their monthly visits to the preserve, fifth graders studied the water quality in the preserve and learned ways to protect their watershed. Sixth graders examined midden piles located in the preserve to better understand the impact of the Weedon Island Culture upon local water resources.
Students from both classes applied for mini-grant funds from SWFWMD that allowed them to create podcasts about their findings.
