Saint Anthony’s Earth Force Club Honored by Pasco County Commission
On February 10th, five students from Saint Anthony’s Catholic School in San Antonio stepped before the Board of Pasco County Commissioners. They were there to represent their fellow Earth Force Club members in being commended “for their outstanding efforts in promoting recycling in Pasco County.”
At the meeting, the Board of the County Commissioners issued Resolution No. 09-106, “A resolution by the Board of County Commissioners of Pasco County, Florida recognizing the students in the Earth Force Program at Saint Anthony’s Catholic School for their outstanding efforts in promoting recycling in Pasco County”. The students were called in front of the Commissioners, to hear this proclamation read into the official County Record. Each student was then greeted by Commissioner Ted Schrader who presented them an official signed copy of the resolution.
The Resolution itself reads as follows;
“WHEREAS, the Earth Force Program at Saint Anthony’s Catholic School in San Antonio is affiliated with national Earth Force and Suncoast Earth Force and was formed by teacher, Linda Whitman, to get youth involved in making decisions and choices about the environment and their relationship to it; and
WHEREAS the mission of the Earth Force Program is to engage young people as active citizens who volunteer to improve the environment and their communities now and in the future; and
WHEREAS, the Earth Force Program at Saint Anthony’s is the only Earth Force group in Pasco County and has been actively involved in important environmental issues since 2000and is therefore a local leader in this type of advocacy; and
WHEREAS students in the Earth Force Program have collected recyclables at every Rattlesnake Festival since 2004; and
WHEREAS, students in the Earth Force Program regularly participate in community clean-ups in San Antonio and separate litter from recyclables and make sure recyclables are handled properly; and
WHEREAS, students in the Earth Force Program have spoken directly to their elected city officials to encourage them to recycle at City Hall; and
WHEREAS, the students in the Earth Force Program distributed over 500 blue recycling bags with instructions on how to recycle in Pasco County by going door-to-door in the greater San Antonio area to encourage recycling among their neighbors and should be commended for their tremendous effort on behalf of the citizens in Pasco County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners of Pasco County, Florida in regular session duly assembled, that said Board commends the students in the Earth Force Program at Saint Anthony’s Catholic School for their outstanding efforts to promote recycling in Pasco County.
