EFBC Fall 2008 - Mitchell & James Island Elementary Schools

Date: 15 Jan 2009

Both of these student groups keyed in on litter as being the environmental issue that affected their school campuses the most. Both groups participated in interactive presentations from Clean City Clara from Keep Charleston Beautiful to learn more about the litter issue and how it affects the Charleston area. Clara focused in on storm water drains and explained to many of the students for the first time how these drains take litter right out into our area marshes. For their service learning projects, both groups decided to install more trash cans on the school grounds. Both of the groups also painted the trash cans with bright, vibrant colors to make them more noticeable. One group did a skit to inform their school mates about the new cans and the other group made a presentation on the morning announcements to educate the other students about their responsibility to not litter.
