A quality Earth Force project is one in which students take civic action in the community to address an environmental issue in a lasting way.
The rubric on the following page is designed to help educators analyze the extent to which their projects are meeting various elements of the above definition. The strong category is the standard of excellence, so no one should feel the need to go beyond strong. Such projects are usually facilitated by teachers who have done Earth Force at least once in the past. The exemplary category describes those rare projects that are presented in Earth Force lore as ideal, so even veteran Earth Force teachers should not expect to reach “exemplary” for many of the quality indicators. Most projects will be a combination of struggling, emerging, strong, and exemplary. The rubric should help educators measure the quality of each element and describe what an even better project might look like.
