The Center for Youth and Communities (CYC) at Brandeis University has conducted the Earth Force evaluation since 1997. We have two overall purposes for the evaluation: to improve our operations and to determine the impact of the program on educators and students.
According to the surveys of Earth Force students:
- 74% report an increase in the skills needed to effect changes in their community.
- 78% report a better understanding of environmental issues.
- 76% report that their experience was “good” or “excellent.”
- 76% report that their Earth Force experience makes them want to learn more.
According to the surveys of Earth Force educators:
- 97% said Earth Force increases their levels of environmental knowledge.
- 97% said it increases their belief in the ability of young people to make a difference in the community.
- 73% said it increased their own commitment to improving the environment.
- 90% are more aware of resources in the community that can help improve their teaching.
- 83% said it increases their satisfaction with teaching.
