7th Annual Bike Around The Bay- May 16, 2009

Join us next year for the 7th Annual Bike Around The Bay in Erie, PA. Gather with hundreds of tri state bicyclists on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Intermodal Transportation Center on the Bayfront Parkway to bike around beautiful Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie. The event is a fundraiser for the non-profit youth environmental education organization Lake Erie-Allegheny Earth Force.

Town Tour --10 mile route:
- Bayfront-Frontier Park-Promenade-South Pier-Dobbins Landing
- Tour designed for families with children or for less experienced riders
Bay Tour -- 30 mile route:
- Bayfront and Presque Isle State Park
- Tour for casual riders
Endurance Tour -- 50 mile route
- Bayfront, Presque Isle to Elk Creek
- Tour for seasoned riders
- Qualifying ride for scouts

International Coastal Clean up

Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup is the world’s largest volunteer event of its kind. Last year, 378,000 volunteers from 76 countries and 45 states cleared six million pounds of trash...visit the Ocean Conservancyto find out more.

The Lake Erie International Coastal Cleanup was expanded from one site to nine sites along the shores of Lake Erie in 2003. Join this effort. Contact Pat Lupo, OSB.

LEA Earth Force and Erie Times-News in Education actively involved students in the cleanup and in projects after the cleanup to work to change behaviors that cause the pollution in the first place. Thirteen of these schools were highlighted in a News in Education Earth Day Supplement.

Discover Presque Isle Day

LEA Earth Force participates in Discover Presque Isle, an annual event at the Presque Isle State Park, usually scheduled for the third week in July. This year, volleyball competitions, artists, kayak rides, bonfires, pancake breakfasts and other festivities attracted 94,179 people to the 11th annual Presque Isle State Park fund-raiser.

LEA Earth Force Youth Advisory Board and Jr. PLEWA took this as an opportunity to educate smokers about the appropriate disposal of cigarette butts.
