Local Programs
Capital Region Earth Force provides our educators with a variety of award-winning professional development materials, training and support for the GREEN program, including:
- The Protecting Our Watersheds curriculum
- Virginia Waterways: Written to support Virginia’s recently revised sixth grade science Standards of Learning (SOLs), this guide provides educators with activities covering watersheds, water monitoring and land use in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
- Training: educators receive training throughout the process to ensure participants are comfortable with the curriculum and have the necessary skills to facilitate a successful project.
- Network of Continuing Support: our staff and partnering mentors support educators and students throughout the year doing site visits, arranging guest lecturers, coordinating field trips and more.
- Water Monitoring Equipment: water quality test kits include tests for nitrates, phosphates, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, coliform bacteria, and macroinvertebrates. POW’s macroinvertebrate, land use, water quality and physical condition charts help to interpret the results.
