Local Programs

The Capital Region office provides Earth Force educators with a variety of award-winning professional development materials, training and support for the GREEN program, including:
  • The Protecting Our Watersheds curriculum
  • Virginia Waterways: Written to support Virginia’s recently revised sixth grade science Standards of Learning (SOLs), this guide provides educators with activities covering watersheds, water monitoring and land use in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
  • Training: Capital Region Earth Force and its local partners provide educators with training throughout the process to ensure participants are comfortable with the curriculum and have the necessary skills to facilitate a successful project.
  • Network of Continuing Support: Capital Region Earth Force staff and partnering mentors support educators and their students throughout the year doing site visits, helping to arrange guest lecturers, coordinating field trips and more.
  • Water Monitoring Equipment: Water quality test kits include tests for nitrogen, phosphates, biological oxygen demand, pH, E. coli levels, turbidity and macroinvertebrate sampling. POW’s macroinvertebrate, land use, water quality and physical condition charts also support water monitoring.
