FrontRange Earth Force and The Southwest Regional Exchange
presents
Institute on Urban Service Learning
The Summer Institute is a three day training for teachers, administrators and community partners that emphasizes service-learning best practices. Introducing techniques and teaching strategies, the Summer Institute will create a solid foundation of service learning for classrooms, with an emphasis on urban and water issues. FrontRange Earth Force will help K-12 educators motivate students as they develop:
- Critical thinking skills
- Environmental awareness
- Community stewardship
- Leadership skills
- Inspired interest in science, civics and service issues
Attendees will learn research based best practices for service learning that can be applied at any grade level, learn how to use authetic reflection using techniques you can bring into your classroom, attend workshops on reaching a diverse population, and methods for fostering youth leadership through the creation of youth councils. In addition, attendees will be taken on a field trip that focuses on local water and will provide teachers with ideas they can take back to their classrooms.
