2010 Youth Summit

What is The Summit?

We believe that YOUth are the change!

The Youth Summit is Denver's premiere event for local service-learning students to demonstrate and celebrate the positive impact they have had on their environment. The event is co-hosted by FrontRange Earth Force and the Denver Zoo's Community Leadership Project (CLP).

Students Demonstrate!

To showcase their service-learning project, students create and lead interactive display booths. All booths are judged based on service-learning components as well as the organization of the booth and preparedness of the students. They can also compete in the Speak Out, where their group can take the stage to voice their passions about their project through skits or songs.  The public enjoys interacting with booths --  learning about service-learning and becoming inspired to create their own positive change.

Teachers and Advisors, here’s what you need to do to prepare for the big day:

• Secure buses or transportation ASAP! This year’s Summit will be two days, Wednesday, April 21st and Thursday, April 22nd.
• Get started on your interactive display. Displays will be judged based on two main aspects: 1. your group’s service-learning process, and 2. the interactive piece, which can take nearly any form, such as bean bag toss, matching game, memory, craft making, jeopardy... you name it!
• Decide whether your group wants to compete in the Speak Out competition. If you do, start working on a presentation to present on stage for no more than 5 minutes.
• Recruit chaperones -- you will need one adult per 10 students to be admitted to the zoo free of charge.

Registration packet will be available beginning in March!

NOTE: Due to the extreme popularity of the Youth Summit, we will not be able to include all of the groups that wish to participate. If accepted, you will receive a confirmation email within 4 weeks. Registration is first come first served, so DON’T WAIT!
