What We Do!
With the Community Action & Problem Solving process, involvement is the key to unlocking a student's motivation, excitement and commitment. All of our programs are based on this six-step process, which culminates in a student-driven service project that both meets a community need and satisfies rigorous academic goals.
"TELL ME, I WILL FORGET. SHOW ME, AND I MAY REMEMBER. INVOLVE ME, AND I WILL UNDERSTAND."
The CAPS process allows students to get to know their community, its assets and challenges. Students choose for themselves an important community issue to adress, then conduct research to get to know that issue from every engle. They trace the issue to its historical roots, identify the populations that the issue affects, and learn about the practices and policies related to that issue.
With this wealth of knowledge at their commend, student then brainstorm ideas for resolving the issue in a long-term, sustainable way. They then design and implement a community service project that addresses the issue, and evaluate their success along the way.

3. COMMUNITY PRACTICE & POLICY RESEARCH
4. OPTIONS FOR INFLUENCING POLICY & PRACTICE
5. PLAN & TAKE ACTION!
6. LOOKING BACK AND AHEAD
Throughout the CAPS journey, teachers act as the guide but the students make the big decisions. Because student voice is respected and encouraged, students are thoroughly engaged and have a huge personal connection and commitment to both the issue they select and the service-project they create.
FR Earth Force staff works closely with the teacher to ensure that students move through the process in a way that encourages their input and motivation, but also meets their academic goals.
