Local Programs

For the 2007-2008 school year elementary, middle and high school students from 35 different sites have the tremendous opportunity to take action and become environmental policy shapers in their communities using the Community Action Problem Solving (CAPS), Global Rivers Environmental Education (GREEN), Earth Force After School (EFAS). We will support approximately 50 educators and 1,200 students.

Suncoast Earth Force offers the Earth Force CAPS and GREEN and EFAS programs to educators in Hillsborough. Pinellas, Pasco and Manatee Counties.

Be a part of the Earth Force Experience!
Become a part of our network of more than 50 educators working in schools after school sites as we bring the Earth Force process to the young people in our communities. Get involved in the Earth Force Experience and see what you and your students can accomplish!

Earth Force training programs give educators the resources they need to address academic standards, and provide young people with the tools they need to begin solving real environmental problems in their back yards, school yards and neighborhoods.

Meet Curriculum Requirements
Earth Force programs meet curriculum requirements for multi-disciplinary and service-learning projects, and address the Sunshine State Standards for “Reading,” “Writing,” “Listening and Speaking,” and “Science and Technology.” FCAT-type tasks are provided during training. This award-winning program is aimed at teaching upper elementary through high school-aged youth essential academic skills including critical thinking, teamwork, problem solving and decision- making.

Enhance Your Professional Development
Suncoast Earth Force would like to provide its educators with the best service possible- professional development. Suncoast Earth Force is committed to providing yearlong support and development not only to better prepare you to facilitate the program with your students, but to provide you with learning experiences. We would like to highlight the need for collaborative learning contexts, teacher inquiry, engagement in practical tasks of instruction and assessment, exploration of relevant subject matter, and consistent feedback and follow-up activities. We would like to provide content that helps them deepen and contextualize their subject-area knowledge and prepares them to respond to individual student needs.

Year long professional development and support is provided.

Student Leadership
Earth Force Mini Grants
TECO Energy Foundation has awarded Suncoast funding to provide Mini Grants to support Earth Force projects. The process has the students writing the grants, a review committee then reviews them, and student interviews are conducted to be able to hear the project in need of the funds. Grants will be awarded by the first week in March.
