PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Training
Suncoast Earth Force is committed to providing a year of support and development to not only better prepare you to facilitate the program to your students, but to provide you with learning experiences. We would like to highlight the need for collaborative learning contexts, teacher inquiry, engagement in practical tasks of instruction and assessment, exploration of relevant subject matter, and consistent feedback and follow-up activities. Suncoast offers over 30 hours of inservice hours to educators.
New materials workshop
Earth Force has developed draft pilot education guide and student activities. Suncoast will be training educators on these materials on September 4th from 6-9 pm.
The next new Earth Force educator training will be held on Friday, October 19th and Saturday, October 20th, from 8:30a.m.- 4:30 p.m.. The training is first come first served! Professional Growth Workshops
Earth Force educators will meet from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in November and March. Two Saturday Field Experiences will help teachers gain content knowledge abour creation of a schoolyard ecosystem and elimination of solid waste.
Join us Saturday, October 6th, 9-5pm at Lettuce Lake Park, and Saturday, January 12th, 9-2pm at Pinellas County Solid Waste.
Suncoast Earth Force Annual Kick Off
We are very excited to host our 4th Annual Kick Off event on Saturday, September 29th. What better place to celebrate Earth Force’s successes, educators, partners and to kick off a new year than visiting Nature's Classroom in Thonotosassa. Details maybe downloaded below.
EVENTS
8th Annual Youth Summit
The Summit will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Al Lopez Park, Tampa. The Summit brings together 600 youth, educators, and community partners who have been involved with Earth Force programs this past year for a day of education and celebration. It's a great way to share our passion for the environment.
OPPORTUNITIES
Earth Force Mini Grants
TECO Foundation for Learning has funded Earth Force $5,000 to provide Earth Force Mini Grants to Earth Force classes. Classes may apply for up to $500. The request for proposals (RFP) will be available in January and is due on February 4th. These grants are written and defended by the students. Up to four students will present their projects to a review committee on either February 21st or 22nd.
