Earth Force and Staples are proud to announce the 2007-2008 Staples Earth Force awards. These classrooms exemplify the hard work being done by educators nationwide to engage young people as meaningful participants in decision making in their communities. Arlington, VA
H-B Woodlawn Middle School, Ms Kathy Molina’s Class

Students at Woodlawn Middle School decided it was time to make a difference and worked for a year to address the electronic recycling program in their county. The project has won awards from Staples and the Environmental Protection Agency. You can read more about the project here.
Philadelphia, PA Holland Middle School, Ms. Spevak’s Class
Holland Middle School students have made a substantial difference in how their school approaches energy use. Read about their project here.
Denver, CO Gilpin Middle School, Mr. Jone’s Class
Gilpin Middle School students decided they had had enough of the graffiti in their community and decided to do something about it. You can read more about their project here.
Charleston, SC West Ashley High School, Ms. Spigner’s Class
While some development is inevitable and good, Margaret Spigner’s Investigative Research class at West Ashley High School is working to ensure that the community preserves some undeveloped land around their school. Read about this award winning program here.
Tinley Park, IL Kirby District 140
The gifted seventh and eighth grade science classes from Kirby District 140 in Tinley Park, Illinois have started multi year project to better protect vital wetlands in their area. This project has won awards from Staples and the State of Illinois – read about the work of these young people here.
Tampa, FL Robinson Elementary School, Ms. Der’s Class
Ms. Der’s class decided that they needed to take the invasive specie problem on at Crystal Lake. Their work in this vital area has won awards from both Staples and the U.S. EPA. Read about the work of this great group of young people here.
